Chapter # 4: Parallel Structure
Parallel structure is a grammatical rule in which words, phrases, or clauses in a sentence follow the same pattern or form. It makes sentences clear, balanced, and easy to understand. For example, when listing actions, all verbs should be in the same form, such as “reading, writing, and speaking.” Incorrect parallel structure can make sentences confusing and grammatically wrong. In MDCAT English preparation, students study parallel structure to improve sentence correction skills and identify grammatical errors commonly asked in entry test MCQs.
